HOW TO WRITE A TECHNICAL BLOG

An examination of the workflow involved in the creation of a technical blog.

We walk you through the steps of creating a technical blog.

What is the procedure for creating a technical blog? Where does one begin, and how does one proceed to the end? Before we get there, it’s important to define what a technical blog is. A technical blog differs from a general blog in that it focuses on a technical topic. It typically traces and thus explains the development/rise or operation of a specific thing, such as a technical creation or an application.

It is not surprising to see tech blogs evolve and take shape in an increasingly technologically driven world. Indeed, writing and sharing technical blogs is an excellent way for an individual or company to share their expertise while cultivating a loyal and valuable readership. It not only helps to document projects, but it also serves as a reference for other web users. In some cases, you can monetize your content or use your blog to market your products/services.

Which brings us back to the original question: How does one go about writing a technical blog? We’ll explain how to do it in this blog…
1. Choosing a Blog Platform
Medium (https://medium.com/) is a good option for choosing a good blogging platform. Other blogging platforms include Blogger (http://www.blogger.com), WordPress (http://www.wordpress.org), Wix (http://www.wix.com), and others. However, Medium has a large following and some great content shared by experts from various fields, making it a popular choice today.
2. Understand your audience and the purpose of your blog.
Recognize who you are writing for right away. This will help you define your approach to writing the blog. Also, what is the point of writing a blog? For example, in the case of YoungWonks blogs, our target audience is young students and parents who are curious about technology and want to feed their curiosity. So the ideal blog would leave the reader with the impression that he or she has gained something from reading the blog, making him or her want to return and read other blogs by the same writer.
In keeping with our target audience, this blog will simplify complex concepts and explain them using analogies from our daily lives. The goal is to inspire our readers and steer them toward science, technology, and coding-related topics that have high utility value, as well as to keep the readers up to date on the latest developments in the field. The goal is to instill in students a culture of making things, of building things from the ground up.
3. Topic selection
It is critical, as with most things, to select a worthy topic. This may appear simple, but it requires careful consideration. The goal is to focus on a topic that is relevant to today’s times and resonates with one’s readers.
4. Trying to conduct extensive research
Get your facts/information straight; this is a general rule for all blogs, and technical ones are no exception. You can’t go wrong with such a blog structure; start at the beginning and build from there. For example, if the blog is about blockchain technology and its future, you must first define blockchain technology. If you need to explain the said concept using another technical term, it is best to address that first and at the very least provide a basic understanding of what this technical term means.
5. Keep it simple and use subheadings to organize it
No matter how complicated the subject, use simple language. If your target audience consists of young students, consider whether your blog text is understandable to them. After all, the goal is to pique people’s interest in the subject rather than to make them feel intimidated by it. Remember that anything can be explained if it is broken down into simpler concepts, which is exactly what a technical blog requires. Depending on your audience and their understanding of technology-related topics, you can divide the blog into subheads / shorter paragraphs that address various aspects of the same subject.
6. Emphasize the visual element
This is especially true for a technical blog, especially one addressing a complex subject. Pictures, graphics, and videos are all visual representations of the topic at hand, and they all contribute significantly to explaining the larger concept. As a result, the presence of some sort of visual element is essential. It could simply be an image of the component captured with one’s phone camera, or it could be a simple diagram depicting the operation of a specific system.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and we couldn’t agree more. Even the most basic of images will help your blog gain more readers because it will be more attractive to them than a blog with no holding image/s.
7. Be critical in your thinking
This is not unique to technical blogs, but it is important to approach any blog subject with a critical mind. What matters is that you present an honest, unbiased viewpoint supported by facts and figures. This entails presenting both sides of the coin; always consider both pros and cons and leave the reader to draw his or her own conclusions. For example, if the topic is an introduction to AI and Machine Learning, don’t just celebrate or warn readers about this technology. Instead, make sure to discuss both its benefits and drawbacks.
8. Making SEO-friendly content
We live in a time when there is no shortage of information available online, so it is critical to recognize this while also working to create content that stands out from the crowd. This includes not only going the extra mile and conducting in-depth research to share a unique perspective (written in one’s own words, as copy-pasting will be detected early on in the virtual world) but also presenting the content in an SEO-friendly manner. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it is the process of predicting what most users will be searching for and using which keywords or phrases based on previous searches performed by users. You then use that word or phrase in your blog title/headline, as well as the generated URL, and ideally begin your text with a similar set of words. This will improve your search ranking and allow you to reach more viewers.
Another option would be to include the next most popular set of keywords rather than the most popular ones. This will allow you to target a more specific but focused search area and rank very high for those keywords.
To summarise, always try to think like the reader you’re writing for; this will help you connect with your audience more effectively. If your topic is relevant and well-researched, and you have gone the extra mile by including inputs not typically found in other blogs/online articles, your work will undoubtedly be well-received.
